The False and Misleading MOSSAD Report That Led Trump to War Adıbelli emphasized that the MOSSAD report did not align with developments on the ground: This report appears to have been prepared with the aim of dragging the US into war. According to the New York Times, a report prepared by Israeli intelligence agency MOSSAD, predicting regime change in Iran, influenced US President Donald Trump’s decision to go to war.
The report predicted that targeting Iranian leaders would trigger a mass uprising, but developments on the ground did not meet this expectation.
CLAIM OF A ROSY PICTURE BEING PAINTED
Dr. Barış Adıbelli, commenting on the issue, stated that the intelligence report in question has been debated from the beginning: It was the Israeli intelligence report that convinced Trump.
We said at the time that a rosy picture was being painted.
This is similar to the weapons of mass destruction report used as a justification for the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
It later emerged that these reports were fabricated at a desk.
DOES NOT ALIGN WITH REALITY ON THE GROUND
Adıbelli emphasized that the MOSSAD report did not align with developments on the ground: « This report appears to have been prepared with the aim of dragging the US into war.
Some data from the field may have been used, but the conclusion reached was written at a desk.
The expectation was the collapse of the regime in Iran and a popular uprising.
However, such a scenario did not unfold.
IRAN’S MILITARY CAPACITY EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
Stating that developments on the ground proceeded contrary to expectations, Adıbelli drew attention to Iran’s military capacity: « There was a false interpretation that Iran’s ballistic missile power was exhausted and its resistance broken.
However, previously unseen multi-warhead ballistic missiles and advanced systems were used on the ground.
In fact, some attacks could not be detected by air defense systems. »
THE US MAY HAVE BEEN MANIPULATED
Adıbelli argued that the report aimed to influence the US: « This appears to be an intelligence report designed to manipulate the US.
The appearance of these claims in the American media suggests that Trump may be seeking a way out by blaming Israel for the war. »
THE DEBATE BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE US: WHO DRAGGED WHOM INTO THE WAR? Adıbelli noted that mutual accusations between Israel and the US could arise during this process, drawing attention to Netanyahu’s statements: « Netanyahu described the claims that Israel dragged the US into the war as fake news.
He said it was Trump’s own decision.
The debate over who dragged whom into the war may grow even larger in the coming period. »
THE GULF AND TURKEY DETAIL
Adıbelli also touched upon the pressure exerted by Gulf countries on the US and Türkiye’s possible role: « The Gulf countries want the US to either end the war or withdraw. »
Turkey, as in the case of Qatar, can play a balancing role in the region and undertake mediation.
POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC PRESSURE INCREASING ON TRUMP
Adıbelli, noting the increasing pressure in US domestic politics, drew attention to the upcoming elections: « The cost of this war is very high.
Billions of dollars in expenditures and military losses are involved.
Furthermore, the Jewish lobby in the US is divided.
This weakens Trump’s hand.
CONCLUSION: OBJECTIVES NOT ACHIEVED
Adıbelli stated that the war has not achieved its objectives: « The regime has not changed, the system has not changed.
Iran continues in the same way.
The expected mass protests did not occur.
In the end, Trump has no concrete gains. »
LEGITIMACY DEBATE ON THE AGENDA
Adıbelli, stating that the allegations made by the NYT could call into question the legitimacy of the war, made the following assessment: « Such news opens up a debate about the justifications for the war and accelerates Trump’s search for a way out of this process.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days. »
